In the winter of 2015, a striking new voice formed in the heart of Denver’s electronic music scene. Spectacle’s orchestral instrumentation (violin, synth, guitar) quickly made the duo stand out amongst the crowd; each performance being an experience that is refreshingly original. Hard hitting drops, alongside an afro-cuban feel make for an irresistible groove and a heady tropical soundscape. Beautiful soaring violin melodies, and deep rhythmic bass synth lines drive each musical passage through every member of the audience. Band members Michael Mahan and Jessica Borth work in unity gripping the crowd for a show that is both mesmerizing and captivating from start to finish. Spectacle brings their audience through an innovative and dynamic journey show after show after show..
The Spectacle Duo’s unique instrumentation brings a multi-dimensional sound not typically heard in the electronic music scene. Spectacle breaks the mold of traditional EDM by incorporating Jazz, Funk, Classical, Afro-Cuban beats, and live instrumentation performance into an intricate masterpiece of harmonic styles and landscapes. The Trio, most commonly described as refreshing and exciting, offers its audience a new hybrid of genres that span all ages.
Passion and intensity define Cpt. HyperDrive’s personality, and his music.
Born in Bogota, Colombia, Cpt. HyperDrive (Robert Gray) was adopted and raised in Long Island. His upbringing in NY brought him to love hip hop and the NYC “Golden Age” sound. Always having a passion for music, but no formal training, Hyperdrive bought a sampler and turntable, and took his shot at creating beats. HyperDrive started producing in 2007, slicing vinyl samples and programming drums on his MPC. After graduating college, HyperDrive realized his dreams to become a musician. Hungry to perfect his craft, he enrolled and graduated from an audio engineering school (REI) on LI. During this time, he was introduced to electronic music thru his friend and fellow BomBassic producer, Brucey B. This vastly changed his perspective on music and how his sound would develop.
His fascination with bass music and all its sub-genres incited HyperDrive to learn the production techniques of EDM and implement elements of dubstep, glitch hop, trance, house and more into his sound. HyperDrive’s production has evolved and now features chopped and looped samples of funk, jazz, rock, blues, classical and soul combined with blistering digital basslines, laser synths, and of course, hard hitting drums. Progression is the key to HyperDrive’s production. Varying tempos, life like drum patterns, new melodies, and a plethora of samples are introduced constantly throughout his tracks to keep them fresh and exciting. HyperDrive’s evolution from boom bap beatsmith to EDM producer has come full circle and he is ready to throw dance floors into a frenzy in 2012! Once you hear his music and experience his live set, you will understand why he is known as Cpt. HyperDrive
