Brother Fat

Brother Fat
Friday, October 17
Show: 10pm
Brother Fat was created for a show that memorialized Count M’Butu, Grammy Award winning percussionist for the Derek Trucks Band in the summer of 2021. The name “Brother Fat” was derived from an early nickname given to him by his closest friends.

Today, the band still performs their own version of improvisational funk and jam music, with a nod to percussion that honors The Count! It’s all about sharing the spirit of love and great music to an extended family of music lovers, the same way The Count did!

Our upcoming show at The One Stop will feature Mike Barnes and Joel Forlines on guitars. Mike is a local legend who has shared the stage with many great musicians including Warren Haynes, The Allman Brothers, String Cheese Incident, Jimmy Page, John Scofield, and many more. Joel plays in St. Owsley and Chants in the Void from Chattanooga, TN. He has also shared the stage with many, including The Ain’t Sisters and the Mosier Brothers Band. JD Smith will be on Bass. JD is a local Asheville favorite with Phuncle Sam and Grateful Dead Family Band. On keys will be Ethan Johnson who also plays with Chants in the Void, as well as the Sovereign Kava House Band. On Drums, Zach Jones, also a regular with the Sovereign Kava House Band, and Neptune Dunes. Mark Chester herds the cats and plays percussion. Mark played with Col. Bruce Hampton and the Madrid Express, and currently with Quickchester.
