David Bryan’s contributions to the Grateful Dead community over 26 years in NYC were diverse and unique. He wrote a masters thesis at Union Theological Seminary on “Grateful Dead Theology” which passed with distinction and portions of which have been published; he composed three string quartet settings of Dead tunes; and he founded “The Terrapin Chamber Ensemble,” with which he mounted three historic concerts in landmarked sacred spaces including an actual subterranean Gothic crypt. He has been supported on stage by many high profile Dead cover musicians, most notably Kenny Brooks, David Gans, Scott Guberman, Zach Nugent, and Skip Vangelas. He was even featured on the Grateful Dead website on two different occasions for his submissions to the Grateful Dead Covers Project, and his work has been hailed as “The Best Kept Secret In Deadhead Land.”
