Joshua Ty Batenhorst
Friday, March 13
Show: 6 pm
Joshua Ty Batenhorst is a singer-songwriter who cuts to the bone like the Texas legends he grew up with musically – Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Joe Ely and all them boys. He has brought tales to the stage form authors as diverse as David Sedaris and William Shakespeare and in his current creative phase he turns his attention to the song form. His songwriting has garnered attention – he was a finalist for the Newsong Music National Songwriting Contest and has been featured on compilations with the likes of Leftover Salmon, Amanda Anne Platte and Woody Wood. No stranger to the local music scene, Captain Josh has been bringing music to stages in its improvised format with local comedy legends Reasonably Priced Babies and was the weekly host of Shiloh & Gaines songwriters night for more than two years. In search of his first record, he is playing a residency of shows over four dates this spring to see what resonates with audiences. Expect a heavy dose of originals, original takes on covers and a few good ol’ cover tunes if the mood feels right. He will be joined by Jess Wells and Ginny Andino of Atlanta’s Duamente for his show on March 15 at Oskar Blues.
